Scholarship Program Overview
The Georgia Association of Environmental Professionals (GAEP) seeks to identify and recognize deserving students in our state by soliciting applications for scholarship aid. To support students' academic advancement in the environmental field, we offer at least two (2) scholarship grants of $1,000 to qualified undergraduate students. The scholarships will be awarded in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
About GAEP
Formed in 2005, GAEP is a chapter of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP). Its primary function is to enhance, maintain, and protect the quality of the natural and human environment through cooperation with the NAEP.
The purpose of GAEP is to:
Promote standards and ethics throughout the professions that comprise environmental management.
Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas among professionals.
Advance the professionalism in environmental planning and reporting in the State of Georgia.
Qualifications
To qualify for the 2024 GAEP Scholarship grant, applicants must be full-time students in good academic standing at an accredited college or university in Georgia for the current (2023-2024) academic year. Applicants must continue with this full-time status for the 2024-2025 academic year. Qualified students should be majoring in an environmental field such as (but not limited to) ecology, botany, fisheries, forestry, geology, geography, environmental science/engineering, environmental planning, impact assessment, natural resource management, or conservation. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required for all applicants. Student membership in GAEP is encouraged but not required and will not factor in the selection of scholarship recipients.
Selection
Top applicants will be selected based on academic qualifications and responses to the attached application. Applicants may be interviewed by phone or in person by members of the GAEP Scholarship Committee. Applicants selected for an interview will be notified by email of the interview's time and location (if necessary). GAEP Scholarship grants will be awarded based on academic qualifications and related activities described in the written application, supplemented if needed by responses received during the interview.
Awards will be announced on or before August 31, 2024.
Application Process
The following items should be submitted on or before the due dates below. Information not specified in this list should not be included and may invalidate the application.
1) A one-page cover letter (optional).
2) GAEP Scholarship Application form (next page) with all requested information completed and signed document.
a) Please electronically sign the name and date.
b) Include a list of references, but do not include letters of reference in the application.
c) Do not include the instruction pages – only the application form.
3) Responses to the following questions typed on 3 pages or less (12-point font, single-sided, 1.5 line spacing).
a) Describe your previous experiences and involvement in the environmental field or profession. How have these experiences helped you? Maximum 1-page response.
b) Describe the type of environmental work you hope to pursue in your future career. Explain why. Maximum 1-page response.
c) What is the current, most pressing environmental issue in the State of Georgia? Support your argument. Maximum 1-page response.
4) Include the following documents after items 1 through 3 (these documents are not part of the page limits above). No other attachments will be accepted or reviewed as part of the application.
a) Typed resume or curriculum vitae (two pages or less). Include any work experience, education, and applicable clubs or organizations.
b) Copy of transcript(s) for each college or university you have attended; include a copy of all current classes for which you are registered. Unofficial (i.e. web-based) transcripts are acceptable.

1) Combine all application materials into a single PDF file.

Applications must be received by 5:00 PM (ET), August 9, 2024.
Confirmation will be sent via email to each applicant within 24 hours of receipt of the application.
